The airport was established by the community in 1935 and is operated by Queenstown Airport Corporation (QAC), which was incorporated in 1988. QAC is jointly owned by Queenstown Lakes District Council (75.01%) and Auckland International Airport Limited (24.99%).
Queenstown Airport's greatest attribute is its central location in the heart of the spectacular Southern Lakes region. It is New Zealand's fourth-busiest airport, supporting a wide network of domestic and trans-Tasman flights, with regular services from Air New Zealand, Jetstar, Qantas, and Virgin Australia.
It is also the home base for a range of helicopter and fixed-wing operators offering scenic flights and other tourism activities.
As guardians of this key community asset, we operate world-class infrastructure, maintain strong aviation networks, and support the economic and cultural vitality of the region.
As a regional hub, Queenstown Airport provides:
- A modern terminal with international and domestic facilities
- Customs and biosecurity services for arriving international passengers
- On-site rental car services, retail, and duty-free shopping
- Convenient access to the lower half of the South Island.
