Media are very welcome to film at Queenstown Airport however because of the nature of our operations, there are processes around security, filming locations and passenger engagement that must be followed.
The airport is split into two areas:
- ‘Landside’ (Before Security) refers to areas that do not require security screening and are easily accessible to the general public (e.g. main terminal concourse).
- ‘Airside’ (After Security) refers to the restricted airfield area and parts of the airport terminal (e.g. Customs, gate lounges, Duty Free) that are accessible only to passengers and staff with security cards who have passed through Aviation Security screening.
News media are able to film in the public areas of the airport but we ask that, as a courtesy, you contact the Corporate and Community Affairs team on +64 27 839 6258 to advise of your visit.
When requesting 'after security' access, 1 week’s notice is preferred in order to make the appropriate arrangements. Permission must be granted by Queenstown Airport Corporation, Aviation Security and the relevant airlines and border agencies and each crew member will need to apply for an aviation security pass. Crews will be escorted by a staff member at all times.
If you are non-news media and want to undertake commercial filming or photography, please refer to Filming at the Airport.
For airport community updates, download a copy of Kōrero, a quarterly magazine, published in-line with the seasons, created to give an insight into the people, projects and initiatives undertaken at Queenstown and Wānaka airports.
