Queenstown Airport ready for marathon weekend

15 Nov 2022

Airport staff are gearing up for one of the busiest weekends of the year.

Queenstown Airport staff are lacing up their running shoes in preparation for one of the biggest weekends of the year.

With the New Zealand Sotheby’s International Realty Queenstown Marathon on Saturday, 19 November 2022, attracting thousands of runners and supporters, the airport will be bustling.

“We love the buzz this much-loved event creates, but we do ask people to be patient, as the terminal will be busier than usual,” General Manager Sustainability and Corporate Affairs Sara Irvine said.

There will also be some road closures around the district, so travellers are advised to allow extra time to get to and from the airport.

As well as a full marathon, several shorter events are also included on the programme.

Queenstown Airport is proud to again be sponsoring the 2.2km Kids Run, which starts at the Queenstown Gardens at 13:00 and ends at the Queenstown Recreation Ground.

“We’ll have a tent nearby, with free face painting on offer, so watch your kids fly over the finish line, then bring them over to say ‘hello’,” Ms Irvine said.
