Lakes District Air Rescue Trust (LDART)

23 Jan 2026

A world-class rescue helicopter service dedicated to bringing critical care can reach those in need.

The Lakes District Air Rescue Trust (LDART) was established in 1991 to provide emergency medical transport in the Southern Lakes region.

Today, it supports dedicated helicopter air ambulance services and Search and Rescue capability across the lower South Island. This support is provided by way of funding for emergency medical equipment, equipment maintenance, and training for specialist crews on medical and rescue helicopter missions in our region.

If you would like to support their efforts, donate today.
Inspired to fly from an early age, Jodie Burton a St John Paramedic on Otago Rescue Helicopter takes us behind-the-scenes as the team undertake pre-winter training showcasing how this valuable service supports the Southern Lakes region. The ultimate goal? Ensuring more of our community and visitors return home.
