Ever had to say goodbye to your favourite face mist or luxe hand cream at airport security? We get it – it’s a bit of a heartbreak. But now, thanks to a fabulous new initiative at Queenstown Airport, your cosmetic cast-offs can go from “confiscated” to “contributing”!
Introducing the PLAG (powders, liquids, aerosols, and gels) Donation Bins – your chance to turn travel mistakes into community wins. Instead of tossing your powders, liquids, aerosols, and gels (over 100ml) into the bin, you can now donate unopened cosmetic items to local charities.
We’ve teamed up with Aviation Security to make this happen. Together, we’re reducing landfill waste (14 tonnes a year!) and helping community members.
Here’s how it works:
- Spot the two bins at passenger screening.
- One is for disposal, and the other is for donation.
- Pop your unopened cosmetic goodies in the donation bin.
- We’ll sort and share them with those who need a little sparkle in their day.
It’s simple, sustainable, and seriously feel-good.
So next time you fly through ZQN, let the cosmetic items you can’t take with you take off in a whole new way – by giving back.
Check out Aviation Security's PLAG guide for more information about what you can take in your carry-on luggage.
