Queenstown Airport Travelling with a Pet

Before you travel

Queenstown Airport does not manage airline pet policies or animal transport requirements.

Before travelling, passengers should:

Check directly with their airline for pet travel rules, fees, and crate requirements
Confirm any documentation required for domestic or international travel
Allow extra time at the airport, as travelling with pets may take longer than standard check-in

Airlines may have different rules for pets travelling in the cabin, in the hold, or for assistance animals.

Pets Inside the Terminal

For the safety of passengers, staff, and animals, all pets must be secured in their crates before entering the terminal. This includes those meeting or farewelling friends and family; otherwise, they must remain secured outside.

Cess's Corner: A Dedicated Space for Travelling Pets

Queenstown Airport has opened Cess's Corner, a dedicated pet lounge and animal screening area designed to make travelling with pets more comfortable and convenient.

Named after Cess, a well-travelled pet who loved getting out and exploring, the space was inspired by her travel experiences and recognises the important role pets play in many journeys.

Collecting Pets on Arrival

If you are collecting your pet at Queenstown Airport, they will be available near the Oversized Bag Claim.

Please keep your pet in its crate until you are outside the terminal. If you need scissors to cut the ties on the crate, we have a tool located by the bike assembly area.
