Take a walk on the wild side and explore the Southern Lakes
25 Oct 2023
Queenstown Airport is the gateway to the Southern Lakes region, which is famous for its natural beauty.
One of the best ways to see the area is on foot and there is a walking track to suit everyone, whatever your ability or appetite for challenge. However, choose carefully, as some routes are more difficult than they appear and weather conditions can change quickly. You don't want your next flight to be in a rescue helicopter!
Here are some resources and advice to keep you safe.
• The Department of Conservation manages some of New Zealand's best walks. It provides a network of more than 950 huts and its staff are always happy to provide advice. It has visitor centres in Queenstown, Wānaka and Te Anau.
