Getting off the plane

Once the aircraft has parked, you will disembark and follow airport signage into the terminal. Queenstown Airport is compact, which helps keep walking distances short and navigation simple.

If you need assistance, such as mobility support or extra time to move through the terminal, airport staff are available to help.

Passport Control

Passport control applies only to international arrivals.

When you arrive on an international flight, you will proceed to passport control before collecting your bags. You will need:

  • A valid passport
  • Any required visas or travel documents
  • A completed New Zealand Traveller Declaration (NZTD)

Queues can vary depending on flight schedules, but staff work to process passengers as efficiently as possible.

Biosecurity

Biosecurity risk assessment checks apply to all international arrivals.

New Zealand has strict biosecurity rules designed to protect the environment and agriculture. These processes are routine and clearly guided by signage and staff.

To move through smoothly:

  • Declare any food, outdoor equipment, or restricted items
  • Follow instructions from biosecurity officers
  • Dispose of restricted items if directed

Language around biosecurity is kept clear and practical, and staff are there to help if you are unsure what needs to be declared.

You will be given either a green, yellow, blue or red card based on your assessment. Collect your luggage, then exit down the assigned lane.

Bag Claim

After the biosecurity risk assessment, you will reach Bag Claim.

Screens display flight numbers and bag carousel information. Once your luggage arrives, collect all checked bags, including oversized items, before continuing, then enter your assigned lane to exit.

If you are unsure which carousel to use to collect your luggage, airport staff are available to assist.
